CyArk is presenting the development process behind the "Masterworks VR" application released in December 2017 for the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR. This presentation features UNESCO World Heritage sites located in the United States, Peru, and Thailand, and explores the process behind developing a photo-realistic and 3D accurate VR experience of these historical sites for desktop and mobile VR platforms. Each historical site was documented with tens of thousands of photographs and hundreds of laser scans captured using rigorous methods, and processed into a detailed 3D models optimized to meet specific hardware performance goals. Narrative content is also added to enrich the site experience, such as ambient audio, subject matter expert interviews and commentary, stereo panoramas and video, as well as 3D models of significant artifacts. Lastly, UI and gameplay elements are developed to create a unified experience across sites, as well as emphasize a common theme.
