S8241 - Sunny Skies Ahead! Versioning GPU accelerated WRF to 3.7.1

Session Speakers
Session Description

We'll detail the inherent challenges in porting a GPU-accelerated community code to a newer major version, integrating the community non-GPU changes with OpenACC directives from the earlier version. This is a non-trivial exercise - this particular version upgrade contained 143,000 modified lines of code which required reintegration into our accelerator directives. This work is important in providing support for newer features whilst still providing GPU support for the users. We'll also look at efforts to improve the maintainability of GPU accelerated community codes.
